BRITISH STANDARD BS 3248:1986 British Standard Specification for sparkguards for use with solid fuel appliances. Up-to date information, and printed copies, can be purchased from National Standards Organizations, such as: BSI or NSAI, or your local library may offer online access at no direct cost to you. See also Test Laboratories, Standards and CE Marking. This is the British National Standard for free-standing lightweight, removeable sparkguards for use in front of open fires, not the semi-fixed BS8423 Fireguards.  Amongst other provisions, the Standard requires a sparkguard to have a protective mesh screen with no more than 40% obscuration, no holes larger than 10mm² and wires not less than 0.5mm diameter. |
